Rotten Tomatoes!!!
All I can say is they must dislike me =[ People that commented only made silly remarks or led me to sites that said ' DO YOUR OWN HOMEWORK'- if only they understood to get other peoples views WAS my homework!! GRRRRRRRrrrrr
It makes you feel well stupid and belittled =[ why couldnt they have been constructive!!??
Oh well it just makes me more determined to find out information =]
Focus Group!!!
For example the drawings were of :
- A Chocolate Bar
- A Candy Cane
- A Dog
All of these have connotations of happiness and warth we gain from interacting with them eg: food- eat it and makes us happy ( sugar) and 'dog' is a best friend!
However the words written down were a complete contrast to this! They all connoted the downsides to childhood eg: Isolation, Neglect, Mysterious etc.
This shows the drastic contrast of how Burtons films are interpreted by each individual. How certain films can infulence them as for this i didnt show any clips of Burtons films.
It was very productive as different persepctives were shown and how they mirror or contradict the ones that I myself have.
THANKS again guys =] xXx
BREAK THROUGH!!!
The link to the best one is:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000318/board/thread/122495944
Its also quite weird as i had no idea about Vincent Price untill Sophie told me about him and I seems alot of Tim Burton fans automatically relate him to Burtons films.
How Vincent Price was an iconic figure for Burton when he was young and how he encompases him into his adult world.
This opens up the question of whether its childhood in general that is portrayed through Burtons films or whether perhapse it is Burtons childhood that is being disected and displayed to us and how universal it actually is!

Another great site!!!
http://burtonites.blogspot.com/2008_01_01_archive.html
BEETLE JUICE AS CARTOON!!!
The cartoon was extracted and created from the actual film of Beetle Juice though. Doe sthis show that despite the childhood experiences and connotations that this film enveloped that infact the creators thought it was to adult for a child audience. Therefore having to create a more idealistic and simplistic format for it to be shown to children in??
Is it me or does this cartoon actually ruin the whole concept of the origional film? I actually Realy dont like it! It does however combine the childish aspect to the more sinister narratve of the film.
The URL for it is this:

RESEARCH.............
So by delving into the surreal world of Tim Burton ive been able to start piecing together the fragments he uses to compile his films and how childhood effects his take on the narrative of a film.
Tim Burton style of film is very gothic and can be decribed as an a childs nightmare relayed for adults to connect with and experience. It has dark humour within it and childhood experieces engraved in all his films whether it be the isolation, and alienation felt by 'Edward Scissorhands', the physical interpretaion of the myth created by 'Beetlejuice' of the boogeyman or the more obvious father son relationship between 'Willy Wonka' and his father in 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.' Also the child love affire with sweets that we have all had once in our lives and the resistance made by our parents to make us stop eating them!!! (most dont succeed! hehe)
To understand this quite uncomfortable and uneasy way that Burton conveys childhood emotions and situations you have to first understand his personal life and his own childhood. Alot of his works feed from his own experiences and despite many believeing that he is quite 'unique' or 'querky' the notion of childhood relates to all those that watch his films in some way or another- whether it be the physical feelings we felt (isolation), the imagenary stories we were told to manipulate us into comforming to rule given by parents or just the plain friction caused within family life.
this website i found gives a small insight into how he was brought up and the sort of films that infulenced him:

This link also shows how burton though carefully about the characters within 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' and the child influence within the film:

TIM BURTON!!!
Okay guys the statement you see above is my Film Studies statement for the Critical Research Project that im doing. If you havent or cant see it for a strange unforseen reason its:
'An analysis of Tim Burtons signature of childhood within his films and how he conveys them to his spectators.'
The three films i am currently Studying to help me show this are:
- Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
- Beetle juice
- Edward Scissorhands
With 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' being the main focus film.
I am asking to hear your views on how you believe Burton conveys this through the films listed above =]
Thank You xXx
